U2 have signed up to be the house band on David Letterman's US chat show for an entire week.

The slot is to promote the band's new album, No Line On the Horizon, which is due to be released on 2 March.

It is the first time a musical guest on Letterman has been given a whole week on the long-running show. U2 last appeared on the programme in 2001.

Get on Your Boots, U2's first single from the new album, opened the Grammy Awards on Sunday.
