Brit nominations to be revealed

The nominations for this year's Brit Awards are to be revealed later at a London ceremony.

Kings of Leon, Take That and Duffy are expected to be among the acts nominated for the UK's leading music accolade.

Radio 1 presenter Fearne Cotton will announce who is in the running at the Roundhouse in Camden.

Kylie Minogue will present the main awards ceremony on 18 February, alongside Gavin and Stacey stars James Corden and Mathew Horne.

However, two acts that have received some of the biggest critical acclaim over the past 12 months have been made ineligible for nominations because of a change in award rules.

Previously artists were eligible to be nominated if they have had a single or album in the UK top 75, but this year it has been changed to the top 40.

This means that Mercury Prize-nominated Laura Marling, who would have been in the running, will fail to get a mention as her album Alas I Cannot Swim only peaked at number 45.

Similarly, US singer Bon Iver, who featured in HMV's top 10 end of year poll of polls, reached number 42 with For Emma, Forever Ago and will also miss out.

The nominations will be shown on ITV2 from 2000 GMT.

Once the shortlists for the 11 awards have been announced, fans can then vote for their favourite British single, live act and breakthrough act from the shortlists.

The best British single will be decided on the night by a live telephone vote.

The Brits Academy, made up of 1,000 invited music industry insiders and critics, will decide on the remaining eight awards.

The Pet Shop Boys will receive an outstanding contribution to music award at the ceremony.
