At-a-glance: Dancing on Ice finalists
At-a-glance: Dancing on Ice finalists
By Genevieve Hassan Entertainment reporter, BBC News |
After 10 weeks of tears, trips, falls and countless injuries, three celebrities have skated their way to the final of ITV1's Dancing on Ice.
X Factor runner-up Ray Quinn, former Liberty X singer Jessica Taylor and investigative journalist Donal MacIntyre will compete to be crowned king or queen of the ice.
During the final, the celebrities will each perform twice before the contestant with the lowest number of public votes is knocked out.
The remaining two finalists will then have the opportunity to perform their own version of Torvill and Dean's famous Bolero routine, before the champion is named.
Donal MacIntyre is partnered by Florentine Houdiniere |
Age: 42
Better known as: A tough investigative reporter.
Professional partner: Former French junior national champion Florentine Houdiniere.
Highest score from the judges: 23 out of 30 in week eight.
Favourite performance from the series: Skating to Everybody Hurts by REM.
Injuries: Some impressive bruises down his left leg from his numerous falls.
What's his Bolero like? "We spent the day on and it and it was the best skate I ever did - and it may never be seen."
On the final: "I think my chances of winning are very poor. The best dancer is clearly Ray and the best skater, I think, is Jessica. If the audience decides to vote for who they feel sorriest for then I may get through to Bolero. If I did win, I'd hand the trophy over to Ray."
What the judges say:
"Donal is the dark horse. He was the underdog, and now he has raised his game so high he's knocked out a lot of other competition we thought would still be here." - Ruthie Henshall
"He has surprised me the most - I wrote him off so early on and now I think he deserves to be here." - Jason Gardiner
"He has taken on board the criticism, worked on it, improved and just transformed himself on the ice." - Nicky Slater
What Torvill & Dean say: "His journey has been amazing. He started from not being able to do hardly anything to improving so much he's in the final."
And another thing: Donal has a large fanbase of prisoners that watch Dancing on Ice and send him letters and messages via Facebook.
Bookmakers' odds: 7/1
Ray Quinn is partnered by Maria Filippov |
Age: 20
Better known as: X Factor runner-up who lost out to Leona Lewis in 2006.
Partnered by: Former Bulgarian ice dance champion Maria Filippov.
Highest score from the judges: 30 out of 30 in week six.
Favourite performance from the series: Eighties week, skating to Starship's Nothing's Gonna Stop Us Now.
Injuries: Surprisingly, or perhaps unsurprisingly, he's managed to come away without a scratch on him.
What's his Bolero like? "It's exciting, intricate and it's all about skating. I'm just going to go for it."
On the final: "Nothing's for sure - there's lots of things that could go wrong, but there's lots of things that could go right. I've got to fight for it like everybody else. We've all worked really hard so to get this far is fantastic."
What the judges say:
"The celebrity everybody has to beat." - Karen Barber
"When I first saw him in week one I was gobsmacked." - Jason Gardiner
"I've never seen talent like that taken from a different genre of dancing onto the ice." Nicky Slater
What Torvill & Dean say: "Ray is a talent - if he'd started as a kid it could've been Torvill and Quinn."
And another thing: Ray has just been cast as Danny in the West End production of Grease. He'll be cramming in rehearsals around the Dancing on Ice tour in April and May.
Bookmakers' odds: 1/5
Jessica Taylor is partnered by Pavel Aubrecht |
Age: 28
Better known as: Formerly one fifth of pop group Liberty X.
Partnered by: Czech Republic skater Pavel Aubrecht.
Highest score from the judges: 26.5 out of 30 in week 10.
Favourite performance from the series: Skating to Mercy by Duffy.
Injuries: Bruised ribs and back after falling while practicing a lift with Pavel backstage.
What's her Bolero like? "It's still a work in progress, but I think it's going to be good."
On the final: "I'm obviously not the favourite, but there's nothing wrong with being an underdog. It's about what happens on the night - there's every chance for all of us if we pull it out the bag."
What the judges say:
"Jessica's has a lovely natural style on the ice, she's going to have to deliver something with the wow factor." - Robin Cousins
"Her strength is that she is fearless and will try anything." - Ruthie Henshall
"Consistency is one of her strengths, but it's this presentational issue which can sometimes let her down." - Nicky Slater
What Torvill & Dean say: "Jessica's performance quality has come on a lot. When she first started she was clumsy but now she's improved so much - there are technical things she is doing better than Ray."
And another thing: Jessica's husband, England cricketer Kevin Pietersen, has kept up to date with her performances by watching them on the internet.
Bookmakers' odds: 5/1
Dancing on Ice - The Final is on ITV1 this Sunday at 1855 GMT
