Ticket-less Iron Maiden fans try to gatecrash the concert

Police in Colombia have arrested more than 100 people after fans of heavy metal group Iron Maiden tried to gatecrash a concert in Bogota.

Rocks were thrown during clashes, which broke out hours before the band was due to perform in a park in the capital.

Riot police fired tear gas canisters at those who tried to enter the concert without tickets.

Colombian media reported one police officer was injured when fans started throwing rocks.

Surgery

Local authorities said they would debate whether Bogota should host any more heavy metal concerts in future.

According to the official police report, about 25,000 people attended the concert in Simon Bolivar Park on Saturday.

The disturbance, it stated, was due to "embarrassing acts perpetrated by a group of malcontents who wanted to enter without tickets".

The report stated that 40 of the 111 people arrested remained in custody and would have to pay for damage to traffic lights and signs.

It said the injured police officer, identified as Rolado Arturo Girata Mora, required reconstructive surgery for a facial injury.

Iron Maiden have yet to comment on the disturbance, which was over by the time they came on stage to open their concert with their hit Aces High.

The band resume their South American tour on Tuesday with a date in the Ecuadorian capital of Quito.
