Former rugby league player Ellery Hanley has become the latest star to be voted off ITV's Dancing On Ice.

The 47-year-old found himself in the bottom two after the public vote along with former model Melinda Messenger, forcing them into a skate-off.

But a fall during his second performance caused the judges to vote in favour of saving Messenger.

Hanley thanked his professional skating partner Frankie Poultney, saying they would remain "friends forever".

It was the third time the former Wigan player found himself skating to stay in the show, telling presenter Phillip Schofield he was disappointed he fell but was pleased with how he recovered.

He also praised his skate-off opponent, describing Messenger's routine as "wonderful" and "magnificent".

"I would like to say thank you to everybody, all my competitors," he said.

"Every one of those deserves their spot."

Singer Ray Quinn earlier wowed the judges, scoring full marks for his skate to Nothing's Gonna Stop Us Now by Starship.
