Academy Awards divide LA locals

Academy Awards divide LA locals

Oscars red carpet
Preparations for Sunday are in full swing
With just three days to go before this year's Academy Awards, the street outside the Kodak Theatre in Los Angeles is a hive of activity.

An entire block of Hollywood Boulevard has been cordoned off to let labourers erect scaffolding over what would normally be a busy six-lane highway.

Giant golden statuettes have been lowered into position to take their traditional place on the famous red carpet.

At a multiplex just a few blocks away, though, some ordinary Los Angeles film-goers cannot see what all the fuss is about.
