Legal thriller Damages, starring Glenn Close and Rose Byrne, will return to the BBC in February.

The drama won several awards last year, including a Golden Globe and an Emmy for Close's acclaimed performance as double-crossing lawyer Patty Hewes.

The 13-part second season reunites the actress with her Big Chill co-star William Hurt - who plays an enigmatic new client of the New York litigator.

Byrne returns as Ellen Parsons, Hewes' former protege now working for the FBI.

Also making an unexpected return is Cheers actor Ted Danson, whose character Arthur Frobisher was shot at the end of season one.

The OC's Tate Donovan returns as Hewes' business partner, Tom Shayes while Deadwood star Timothy Olyphant plays new character Wes Krulik.

"The first season of Damages, with its compelling mix of complex legal thriller and riveting murder mystery, really set the bar high," said Sue Deeks, BBC's Head of Series, Programme Acquisition.

"I can't wait to see what they do with season two!"

Last year's series finale drew an audience of 1.5 million viewers to BBC One in April.
