Three British actors have made the shortlist for Bafta's Rising Star award recognising emerging talent.

Noel Clarke - who played Mickey in Doctor Who - and Rebecca Hall, who is starring in Woody Allen's Vicky Christina Barcelona, are nominated.

Film actor Toby Kebbell is also in the running, along with Irish actor Michael Fassbender and American Michael Cera.

The award is voted for by the public by text and online. Last year's recipient was Hollywood star Shia LaBeouf.

Clarke is also being acknowledged for writing and directing the film Kidulthood, which won him prizes at the Dinard film festival and the British Independent Film Awards.

Hall's other big screen credits to date include Frost/Nixon and The Prestige.

Toby Kebbell also won an award last year for his supporting role in Control, the biopic of Joy Division frontman Ian Curtis.

He has gone on to appear in Guy Ritchie's latest picture RocknRolla, and has recently completed filming on fantasy epic Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time opposite Sir Ben Kingsley and Jake Gyllenhaal.

US actor Michael Cera starred in TV sitcom Arrested Development, and gained critical acclaim last year as the male lead in teen pregnancy comedy Juno.

Michael Fassbender most recently won acclaim for portraying IRA hunger striker Bobby Sands on the big screen.

All nominees must have appeared in a film that has been entered for the Bafta film awards, and will have a number of screen credits already to their name.

Past winners of the award are Bond actress Eva Green and James McAvoy, who has since embarked upon a Hollywood career.

The winner of this year's award will be announced at the Bafta film awards in London on 8 February.
