Alice Glass, singer with electro punk band Crystal Castles, has been named the coolest person in music in NME magazine's annual list.

The Toronto-based singer, who is best known for crowd surfing at her gigs, said she was "flattered" by the title.

Rapper Jay Z, who headlined Glastonbury in July, came in second place.

Alex Turner from the Arctic Monkeys, Oasis star Liam Gallagher, Kings of Leon's Caleb Followill and Glasvegas' Caroline Mackay also made the top 10.

'Tabloid antics'

In third place was Andrew VanWyngarden, one half of indie duo MGMT. The pair are best known for their hits Electric Feel and Kids.

Turner, who also fronts the band The Last Shadow Puppets, was fourth in the poll, moving up two places from last year.

Amy Winehouse

Late of the Pier's Sam Dust, Ladyhawke and British-born songwriter MIA have also been included in the list.

Amy Winehouse and Pete Doherty have completely slipped off the radar this year.

Last year Winehouse featured at number eight.

NME's editor Conor McNicholas said: "The likes of Amy and Pete have dropped off the list altogether this year, perhaps because they are more known for their tabloid antics than their music at the moment."

Previous artists who have topped the list include Jack White, Justin Timberlake and Beth Ditto.
